Jack Sparrow was a Muslim Hero

12/10/2013
SPARROW WAS A MUSLIM HERO (from MPACUK)
: The Real Captain Jack Sparrow was a Muslim! (don't believe it!!! Check wiki and other links given below) His real name was Captain Jack Ward and he was also known as Jack Birdy. He was on the run from the church when he converted to Islam in the late 16th Century. His entire crew also converted to Islam with him. Captain Jack Birdy was obsessed with little birds during his time in Tunisia (where he fled). So much that the locals would call him Jack "Asfur" being Arabic for sparrow. This is where the name Captain Jack Sparrow comes from.

His Muslim name was Yusuf Reis. He was married to another renegade from Christendom who also converted to Islam, Jessimina the Sicilian. Whilst Captain Jack Birdy was known as a great drunkard, he stopped drinking alcohol when he converted to Islam. He was instrumental in rescuing thousands of Spanish Jews and Muslims fleeing from ethnic cleansing from their lands in the 16th and 17th centuries by Christian extremists (another fact you probably don't know). And yet you would never know this. No positive image of Islam is depicted in the movie, no clue of this great man's Islamic roots. It had been airbrushed - deleted from history. Were they afraid to show anything great about Islam?

Perhaps it might awaken the slumbering conscience of the Muslims about their legendary past - give them a clue that they were not a defeated people, that they had great roots and their forefathers were great heroes and that they had a history of resistance to oppression. When Hollywood stole our heroes, they suddenly become white and Anglicised - but note when Hollywood depicted Muslims as overtly Muslim - then we were bigots, terrorists and paraded across the television screens of the world as fanatical worshippers of a violent religion.

Captain Jack Sparrow the Muslim man who saved Muslims and Jews from Christian European ethnic cleansing - now became a white Christian European his Islamic history purged. In short they created our identity - we had no say in the matter. The impact was no different to the impact it had on black slaves or Native Americans when they were equally murdered and enslaved. The world had no sympathy for them, and they after awhile saw themselves unfit and psychologically inferior to their oppressor. They lost all confidence in themselves. Much like the Muslims today.

All this could not have happened if we had been taught our history, understood it and taught it to the next generation. However our Mosques, Scholars and apolitical colonized rituals-only Muslims were not interested in the great ethical, moral giants of Islam - they wanted an Islam of petty rules and nothing more. They taught an Islam without heroes, as if the Prophet died and Muslims twiddled their thumbs for the next 1500 years. A story the colonizers of the Muslim world were all too happy to accept. Without a great history of struggle against evil - the young Muslims of today would never want to be the next Captain Jack Sparrow, because we had no value for great men like this, instead the young were taught to debate about petty matters, what clothes we should wear; what foot to enter the toilet with; can we say "Ameen aloud or not!"

Ethics and the great Islamic ideals were sidelined as minor issues replaced great moral cause Islam brought to the world. Today we needed a revival of the great ethics Islam gave us - as the Muslim world plunges again into the darkness and hell through meddling by foreign powers, we need great heroes, great men - more Salah-ud-deen Ayubi’s more Khalid Bin Waleed’s more Malcolm X’s and More Captain Jack Sparrows. It is time we revived the great history of our freedom fighters and push back the pacified colonized version of so called Islamic teaching that tells us to sit passive and debate over petty matters while the world and our Ummah burns. Good article but it states petty matters, what clothes we should wear; what foot to enter the toilet with; can we say "Ameen aloud or not!"

Maybe to the writer of the article certain duas and the sunnah of the holy prophet pbuh is petty not to me it isnt. Jack Sparrow and a thousand so called heroes are nothing in comparison to the holy prophet pbuh or is the greatest man to have ever walked on earth and his companions are the greatest human beings. It is far more important to study their lives than people like Jack Sparrow.

I just read this article is written by MPAC, no wonder why. This organisation loves to insult people. I have read numerous articles where they insult imams and various scholars. Of course it is good to know about Islamic history but is it not far more important to study the life of Mohammad pbuh and his companions than lesser men? Mohammad pbuh and his companions are heroes.

Thanks to MPACUK for a great effort. Sadly, colonized, apolitical Muslims think that sitting in the masjid debating petty issues is following the Prophet (peace be upon him). Nothing could be further from the truth.

Islam says "worship God",, dont worship people or stones instead of Him,, it is the massage of all messengers including Abraham, Jocob, Ismaeil, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad -peace and blessings be upon them- ,,, if you want to know more about Islam plz visit www.sultan.org

I don't think the historical aspect of this article is being appreciated. Muslims today need heroes to inspire them, Muslim heroes who lived through different times. May Allah have mercy on Captain Yusuf Reis.. Aameen.
