Why did God send Messenger after Messenger instead of coming Himself?

A question reached us from a 14 year old Pakistani sister living in the US who has had to face this question from people attacking her faith.

Why did God send Messenger after Messenger instead of coming Himself?

Assallam alaikum (peace and blessings be upon you). Thank you for asking about Islam, we are always happy to answer questions about Islam.

Allah is the Creator of all creation – this includes the entire universe that we can see around us. Sometimes we do not realize how tiny we are and how His greatness. Here are a few short youtube videos to understand the size of us compared to even the known universe:

There are literally billions of solar systems and galaxies. Are we so arrogant as to ask the Master and Creator of the Universe to show up Himself?

Further, unlike Christianity or the West, where they depict God in human form, Muslims do not imagine that the Creator of this vast universe is “like us”. Rather, the Quran says:

Say: He is Allah, the One and Only
Allah, the Eternal, Absolute,
He begets not, and nor was He begotten (He has no children and no parents)
And there is no one comparable to Him. (Surah Al-Ikhlas)

The Creator is far greater than the creation. Once, Moses asked Allah if he could see Him, here the Quran explains this story beautifully:

“And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, “My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You.” [Allāh] said, “You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it should remain in place, then you will see Me.” But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious. And when he awoke, he said, “Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers.” [Al-A’raaf: 143]

That is the greatness of Allah.

Muslims are not so arrogant as to imagine the Creator of the entire universe (and who knows how many other universes) will have to come knocking at their door to try and convince them about His existence, and His Will.

And unlike other religions, Islam is not based on blind belief. It is not that we believe without real proof, real evidence. Islam brings faith with evidence. We are neither like some who make claims about God without proof, nor like some who reject God, again without proof. To get a small taste of the evidence of Allah and of Islam, see this piece by a scientist who became a Muslim after considering the evidence:

This is just a small taste of the vast amount of evidence that points directly to the fact that there is One God, Allah, and that the Message sent via his last Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) could not have been faked by any human being.

1. A reasonable person would not expect the Creator of the Universe to show up to deliver His message.

2. That Moses could not even bear to see Allah indirectly, when Allah revealed Himself to a mountain, Moses just looked at the mountain and collapsed (and the mountain was turned to rubble).

3. Muslims have evidence and proof of the existence of Allah and the authenticity of the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him). They do not require speculations and arrogant demands to become believers in the One Creator, Allah.
Thank you again for asking about Islam. May Allah bless you and guide you to the right path.
Assallam alaikum (peace be upon you).
