KABUL: The number of NATO soldiers killed this year fighting Afghanistan's brutal insurgency Friday surpassed last year's toll by 101....

Six foreign troops were killed in Taliban bombs or fighting the rebels in the past two days, NATO said, taking to 622 the number of international soldiers killed this year as the rebellion intensifies.

The toll last year was 521.

The AFP tally is based on that kept by the website, which collates announcements from NATO and the US military.

NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said three soldiers were killed on Friday and three on Thursday, in insurgent attacks and by roadside bombs....

The nationalities of the soldiers were not revealed, according to policy.

ISAF said that two of the Friday deaths were the result of attacks in the south, where the insurgency is concentrated. The other soldier died in eastern Afghanistan in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack.
